Tuesday, November 6 at 7 pm
In the 1970s, the Highwoods Stringband’s unique blend of musical brilliance, exuberance, sparkling wit, and eclectic repertoire introduced tens of thousands of delighted listeners to traditional old-time music. They traveled extensively, including tours of Latin America and Europe. Based in the Ithaca area, the band had a considerable local following. Their inspiration of countless other musicians can still be heard today.
Blending rare performance footage, photographs, sound recordings, and interviews, this colorful film aptly captures the spirit of the time and the joy and excitement generated by the band.
This presentation will help defray the production costs. Don’t miss it, as the event is a one-time live showing of this film.
“The Highwoods Stringband distilled the spirit of American fiddle music of the past into an irresistible music of the present. Their legacy is captured perfectly in this film.”
