The Throwaways

**February 27th, 6 PM** Join us for a screening of local filmmaker Ira McKinley's film "The Throwaways" and excerpts from Ira's new film "A Tale of Two Journeys," "The Throwaways" examines the impact of mass incarceration and police brutality through Ira's personal story. "A Tale of Two Journeys" is a work in progress. This film focuses on stories of Black Americans who traveled to Central New York. The proceeds from this event will support Ira's work in completing this project. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion exploring how local and personal stories help us develop a deeper understanding of national history. Panelists will include the filmmaker as well as Kofi Acree, the Director for the John Henrik Clarke Africana Library and Curator of Africana Collections for the Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections, and Leslyn McBean-Clairborne, director of the Greater Ithaca Activities Center.PT2H2025-02-27
